Andrew Downton
Hey, I'm Andrew. I'm a mastering engineer based in Vancouver, BC.
My approach to mastering is straightforward: whatever best serves the music and the vision of the team behind it. I believe that effective mastering is rooted in communication, and I take great care to understand my clients' needs. I strive to build strong relationships with the people I work with, and care deeply about their success and the music they trust me to finish.
I have mastered projects for Bryan Adams, Debbii Dawson, Olivia O’Brien, Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous), Jessia, Cameron Whitcomb, Zinadelphia, Bilal, Henry Wagons, Havoc of Mobb Deep, and many more artists around the world. My work has been released by Sony/RCA, AWAL, Nettwerk, 604, and Light Organ.
Collaborators include Bob Rock, Leroy Clampitt (Big Taste), Steve Dawson, Alida, Aaron Short, Pedro Calloni, Zhone, and Chin Injeti.
My work has earned a Juno (Electronic Album of the Year) for Tor's "Oasis Sky," three additional Juno nominations for Blues Album of the Year, Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, and Traditional Roots Album of the Year, an ARIA Award nomination for Country Album of the Year, a Cubadisco Award, and two Canadian Screen Award nominations for Apple TV's "The Snoopy Show."
When I'm not in the studio, I spend my time hiking, backpacking, ski-touring, and climbing, often with my adventurous 7-year-old son.
