Andrew Downton

I'm Andrew. I'm a mastering engineer based in Vancouver, BC.
My approach to mastering is straightforward: whatever best serves the music and the vision of the team behind it. I believe that effective mastering is rooted in communication, and I take great care to understand my clients' needs. I strive to build strong relationships with the people I work with, and care deeply about their success and the music they trust me to finish.
I have mastered projects for Lennon Stella, Bryan Adams, Waxahatchee, Anne Murray, Brennan Wedl, Richie Sambora, Debbii Dawson, Olivia O’Brien, Alisa Xayalith (The Naked and Famous), Cameron Whitcomb, Zinadelphia, and many more artists around the world. My work has been released by Universal, Atlantic, Columbia, RCA, Anti, Thirty Tigers, AWAL, Nettwerk, and 604.
Recent highlights include mastering the soundtrack for Snoopy Presents: A Summer Musical (Apple TV / Peanuts Worldwide) and leading the restoration and remastering of five Anne Murray albums for Universal Music Canada. This work included restoring the original multitrack recordings, supervising and mastering the Dolby Atmos mixes, delivering new stereo masters for vinyl and streaming, and mastering her new album Here You Are.
Collaborators include Bob Rock, Leroy Clampitt, Gabe Goodman, Brad Cook, Steve Dawson, and Aaron Short.
My work has earned a Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year (for Tor's Oasis Sky), three additional Juno nominations for Blues, Vocal Jazz, and Traditional Roots Album of the Year, an ARIA Award nomination, a Cubadisco Award, and two Canadian Screen Award nominations for Apple TV's The Snoopy Show.
When I'm not in the studio, I spend my time hiking, backpacking, ski-touring, and climbing, often with my adventurous 8-year-old son.
